Fischer-Technik: Alien Conspiracy
When I was somewhat younger, I used to collect Fischer-Technik. That German construction toy thing. I used to get all of the catalogues, and I was working my way towards buying all of the digital logic-block sets, with a view towards making a four-bit processor out of a huge array of D-Flipflops and NAND gates, when it all changed, somehow. Overnight. The catalogues looked slightly different. Different typeface, maybe. But the wheel-hubs of all of the varieties of plastic wheels - which used to be made of red plastic - were now made out of black plastic. The differential gear kit was gone. Some kinds of cogs were no longer available. There were lots of new things you could make, but several others - pivotal designs, in my mind, like the digitally-controlled elevator - were no longer possible.
