machina

After I finish my shower, there she is. As always. Her skin, pale perfection. She's resting on her side, one hand demurely covering her breasts, the other lying along her bare hip. She stares at me without recognition, her eyes tracking me as I approach the bed. She doesn't speak. I couldn't afford the speech module.

However, her other subtleties more than compensate for this lack. As I approach, she reaches out a hand to me. I take it and she drags me closer, to lie next to her. I haven't thought of a name for her yet.

We lie together, close enough for me to feel the warmth of her body, taste the faint spice of her exhalation (she doesn't breathe regularly). Her eyes are focused on mine, now, and her expression mimics that of a real person, with just enough variations to dispel the contrived air that a recording would have; for example, this time, her lower lip twitches. She's never done that before. I smile and, coincidentally, she smiles back at almost the same time. It's these few moments that almost dispel the reality, almost creating the illusion that she's ... uh ...

I reach up to stroke her hair and she takes my hand in hers. I know objectively that the routine which compels her to do this is labelled (in the source code) as confirm_B, but, ignoring this, I can pretend that she's human, that she cares for me. I kiss her. This is something she does well. Most of the effectors, the tiny electromagnetic motors that these machines use as muscles, are built into the face, to provide expression and oral manipulation such as kissing. A considerable amount of the research in this field concentrated on the face.

These thoughts keep intruding. I make an effort to put them out of my mind; she is here to please me. I draw her closer and revel in the feeling of having someone warm and soft to put my arms around; she hugs me in return. My elbows are against her ribs, now, both arms holding her to me as tightly as possible, the palms of my hands against her shoulder blades, pressing her face to mine, kissing her, my mouth moving against hers in desperation, ignoring the fact that I've performed all the triggers her sensors require, forgetting that she only works to a limited program and that I'm getting carried away ...
