Aliens: Tsialo

Approximate in shape to six-legged Afghan hounds, head slightly flattened horizontally. No apparent sense organs. Size; about 1.30 metres tall, mass around 60 kg. Covered in fur/hair, varying from bone-white to dark grey/brown. Clawed toes, able jaws/tongue which can substitute for hands. Front two legs usually raised off ground unless running.

Sense organs include low-resolution, long-distance heat sensitivity (sense organs in front paws; hunting stance has them raised on rear four legs with front paws outspread and palms facing forwards, a stance which is occasionally mistaken by humans for one of greeting); ridges of scent- sensitive hairs along sides of head, brief pheromonal forms of speech closely tied to emotional changes; electromagnetic sensitivity (first forms of written language were made on sheets covered with powdered lodestone, defined areas with differing magnetic field orientation).

Originaly pack animals communicating via organically based short-wave; the primitives were individually sub-sentient, achieving intelligence sufficient to hunt in packs by communal thought-sharing. Short-wave was retained as the species evolved as a means of communication; individuals became more intelligent in themselves, while retaining strong bonds to their packs (which numbered between five and seventeen).
