I have to find something new to do as a career. My health has nosedived in the last 12 months. It’s much harder for me to do the kind of work I used to do — the kind that involves focus and concentration and the ability to sit upright for more than 30 minutes at a time.
I have to figure out what I can do now that works with my new circumstances. Lots of different ideas have been swirling around but nothing has clicked as the ideal perfect solution yet. (Except for winning the lottery which would be a great solution financially even if it wouldn’t make much difference to my health.)
Whatever I end up doing it will almost certainly be online. Something I can do remotely at home when I’m feeling really bad, or out in the world on days that I’m feeling a bit better. I need hours that are flexible, not too long, but still enough to get things done.
Since I know that I’m going to be doing something online, even if I don’t know exactly what it is yet, it seems like a good idea to start establishing some habits that are going to help me in my transition. Whatever I do, I’ll be communicating with others online, promoting myself, sharing news about projects or products, maybe publishing original content.
By getting myself into a habit of blogging regularly, I can help myself prepare for whatever career path I end up choosing. I can use this blog as a way to explore ideas of what I might do. Maybe I’ll write some random blog posts on topics that interest me. Or maybe I’ll just blog through the experience and the exploration of trying to work out what’s going on with me and what I’m going to do next.
I know it’s going to make for a somewhat disjointed and disorganised blog to start with, but I’m hoping that eventually some form will emerge from the chaos that I can refine and improve upon.
For the first time I’m also trying to use Android speech to text feature to write a blog post. It’s a bit weird. Punctuation and corrections are especially challenging. I guess I’ll get used to it after a while. Hey I I just thought of a blog post that I can write: how to use Android speech to text to write a blog post. Wahey. The content mill is open.
